Privacy Policy

The Penn CNB team is committed to protecting the privacy of our users and we want to provide a safe and secure user experience. The Penn CNB is typically used by investigators who want to assess cognitive function online for a defined set of participants. This privacy policy describes the type of information we collect, how we use the information, and how we protect or otherwise handle the information collected from the users of the webcnp.med.upenn.edu website.

What information do we collect from you?

If you choose to register as an administrator on our site, you will be required to enter your name, email address, mailing address, phone number and other details relating to your research project. We use this information to operate and provide our services to you. This information is also used to setup your account in our system and to contact you regarding your completed testing sessions till the completion of your collection.

Participant Data

If you are a subject in a project or research study involving Penn CNB, your administrator is required to collect from you the age, year of birth, sex, handedness, fluency in English language as well as the date of testing session using our website. We use this information to initialize the testing session. This information is also used to help us resume your testing session if your computer crashes or if the testing cannot be completed in one session. We do not collect the name, date of birth, address, email address, phone number or any other personal information about participants. Your test session responses are owned by the administrator or investigator of the study and we treat that information as private to the study investigator. We may use De-identified Data for purposes of research, the improvement of CNB applications and services, and/or the development of new CNB tests and services. Penn CNB does not sell test responses to any third parties.

Do we use 'cookies'?

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site's or service provider's systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. For instance, we use cookies to help us remember you during the test session. They are also used to help us resume your testing session if your computer crashes and understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide you with improved services.

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. Since each browser is a little different, look at your browser's Help Menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies. If you turn cookies off, your testing session will not work properly and your ability to use some features will be limited.

How do we protect your information?

The information we collect from you is stored on secured servers and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems and are required to keep the information confidential. The web application itself is behind Penn’s secure firewall and multiple layers of security exist to reduce the risk of unauthorized exposure of data. Penn employs industry standard security measures to safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of all servers. So when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information, we maintain the safety of data and any related personal information. The server backups data nightly and there are measures in place to provide long-term retention of our servers, application, and database.

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page.
